CME Online Resources

For the January 1, 2005 Medical license renewal date, the PA Board of Medicine is requiring 25 hours of CME (earned during the period January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2004). The 25 hours may be either category 1 or category 2. Three of the 25 hours must be on the topic of patient safety and risk management.

Beginning with the January 1, 2007 renewal date, 100 hours from the preceding two years (January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2006) will be required. Up to 80 of those credit hours can be category 2. Twelve hours of patient safety and risk management are required, and they can be either category 1 or 2. Category 2 hours are obtained by self-study of materials beneficial to your practice and self-recording of the actual hours spent studying.

The PSA's Continuing Education Committee has compiled a list of internet based resources to assist its membership in attaining CME credits. While there are thousands of hours of CME available online for little or no cost, this list focuses on sites related to Anesthesia, Pain, or Patient Safety / Risk Management. The annotated list provides a brief description, the cost, and a hyperlink to the site. When you find useful sites that are not on the list, please click here to email them to the Education Committee and they will be added to the list. After you visit these sites, click here to send the Committee your email feedback, which will be incorporated into evaluations of the site and added to the annotated list.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society has developed a useful tool for tracking your CME in each required category. Navigate to the PMS Webpage and look for "Tracker" under "CME" in the "Member Resource Center".
