Hospital Regulations:
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is currently updating hospital regulations. The PSA was granted access to review a preliminary version of the regulations. In that version of the regulations, the Department of Health removed the physician supervision of nurse anesthetists. This change would lead to nurse anesthetists being independent.
The PSA opposes the changes to the physician supervision requirement.
Senate Bill 325: CRNA Titling Bill
This legislation would give nurse anesthetists a legally recognized title and move them one step closer to being independent.
The PSA opposes this legislation as it would move nurse anesthetists closer to independent practice.
Update: On June 24, 2019 the senate passed Senate Bill 325, with a vote of 49-0. The legislation is now in the House Professional Licensure committee
Senate Bill 697 and House Bill 1476: Administration of Anesthesia
These pieces of legislation would protect and maintain the current standard of anesthesia care in Pennsylvania.
The PSA supports this legislation because it maintains the current anesthesia standards and would go a long way to protect Pennsylvania patients.
